We love pasta so much and it can be hard to make it any better than it already is. But this new creamy, cheesy macaroni, recipe is top notch. The key here is three different delicious cheeses.

Baked Mac and Cheese

This creamy, cheesy, and easy mac and cheese is started on the stove and finished in the oven and ready in less than 30 minutes. We don't only use cheddar cheese, we also add in mozzarella and parmesan which pairs so great together.

Ingredients You Will Need:

  • Macaroni. We used elbow macaroni but any short pasta works here.
  • Butter. If you use salted butterreduce the salt to 1½ teaspoons.
  • Olive Oil.
  • Flour. All purpose, not self-rising.
  • Half & Half.
  • Salt.
  • Garlic Powder.
  • Cayenne Pepper. If you don't want the spice this an be left out or substituted for paprika.
  • Black Pepper.
  • Cheddar Cheese. Shredded.
  • Mozzarella Cheese. Shredded.
  • Parmesan Cheese. F inely Grated.
  • Panko Bread Crumbs.

Baked Mac And Cheese Recipe

  1. Cook pasta. Boil the noodles about 7-8 minutes; undercook it slightly so it's al dente.
  2. Cheese sauce. Heat the olive oil, butter, and flour until the butter has melted. Slowly whisk in the half & half and then slowly whisk in the cheese and spices.
  3. Combine. Once the sauce has thickened, pour it over the pasta and stir until the noodles are covered.
  4. Make the topping. In a small skillet, melt the salted butter and breadcrumbs, toast over medium heat until they start to brown. Add in the Parmesan cheese right at the end of toasting.
  5. Cook. Pour the pasta with sauce into a casserole dish. Sprinkle the breadcrumb mix on top and bake for 10 minutes.

How To Reheat Baked Mac And Cheese

The tastiest way to reheat macaroni and cheese is to add a splash of milk in the portion you are reheating (about half a tablespoon per cup of noodles), cover and heat in the oven on 350 for about 10-20 minutes.

Cook Time 20 mins

Ingredients:

  • 1 lb elbow macaroni
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • 3 tablespoons all-purpose flour
  • cups half & half
  • 2 cups shredded cheddar cheese
  • 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
  • teaspoons salt
  • ½ teaspoon garlic powder
  • ¼ teaspoon ground cayenne pepper
  • ¼ teaspoon ground black pepper
  • 2 tablespoons salted butter
  • 1 cup panko bread crumbs
  • 3 tablespoons finely grated parmesan cheese optional

Directions:

  • Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F and grease a medium casserole dish with nonstick spray; set aside.

  • Cook the pasta according to the package directions for "al dente", this should take about 7 to 8 minutes. Drain, place back in the pot, and set aside.

  • Meanwhile, heat the olive oil, butter, and flour in a large skillet until the butter has melted. Whisk the mixture over medium low heat for 3 minutes.

  • Whisk in the half & half and bring to a simmer.

  • Whisk in the cheddar and mozzarella cheeses as well as the salt, garlic powder, cayenne, and black pepper until the cheese is melted and the mixture is thick and gooey.

  • Pour the cheese sauce over the pasta and stir until fully coated then transfer into the prepared casserole dish.

  • In a small skillet, melt the salted butter and add in the Panko breadcrumbs and toast over medium heat until they begin to brown. Optional: Mix in 3 tablespoons of Parmesan cheese right at the end of toasting.

  • Sprinkle the mixture over the top of the macaroni and cheese and bake for 10 minutes.

This can be left as a stovetop mac and cheese, simply omit the bread crumb topping ingredients and the baking step.
